What does this future Snapchat paid subscription have in store for you?

Snapchat is exploring a new strategy to potentially monetize the app, via a new subscription service. Thus, users will have access to many exclusive and experimental tools and features…

As the company’s first-quarter results indicate, Snap is currently growing subscribers faster than Facebook and Twitter. However, the company also want increase her income. In April, it announced a new tool that converts photos into AR objects and later integrates it into the Snapchat shopping experience.

But that’s not all, because Snap in turn starts the paid subscription by creating its own subscription plan: Snapchat Plus. Behind this original name, the app aims to improve the Snapchat experience for the most dedicated users.

Last week, app researcher Alessandro Palozzi unveiled the usual screenshots revealing his latest discovery.

Like Twitter Blue, this is a version of the app that offers advanced features with three subscription level options for the people who use it the most.

  • For the first level, the subscription costs €4.59 per month;
  • second 24.99 euros every six months;
  • Third level €45.99 per year.

What features does Snapchat Plus offer?

Through this subscription system, Snapchat will unlock features such as:

  • A special star badge on your profile. Unlike the verified blue tick on Instagram or TikTok, you don’t have to go through many steps to get it. The star badge only indicates that you are subscribed to Snapchat Plus;
  • Install a profile as your #1 best friend to quickly snap photos or chat with them. This option called “BFF” is similar to the “Close Friends” function on Instagram, but you can only choose one friend. When you pin someone as your #1 best friend and share their location, it is possible to track their whereabouts for the past 24 hours;
  • Exclusive Snapchat Icons Exclusively customized to personalize your profile. You can get creative, customize background colors, add flags or flowers, and even change facial expressions. The classic Snapchat icon with the ghost sticking out its tongue, for example, returns, as are the new neon Snapchat icons with a token above the ghost;
  • Tools to see how many friends have viewed your story in the last 24 hours.

Even if everything seems to be in place already, this subscription model is not yet available to users, as it is still in the internal beta stage.

Liz Markman, IA Snap Inc. spokesperson said:

“We are conducting initial internal testing of Snapchat Plus, a new subscription service for Snapchat users. We are excited about the opportunity to share exclusive, trial and preview features with our subscribers, and learn more about how we can best serve our community.”

Snap isn’t the only social network that is considering or actually offering a paid subscription. Telegram has confirmed that it is also working on a premium subscription, which is due for release in June 2022. It is no longer noteworthy that Twitter already offers Twitter Blue, first in Australia and Canada, and then in the US. Zealand. For its part, Google Photos also offers exclusive filters and effects for Google One subscribers.

It’s not clear when Snapchat Plus will be released, as it’s still in test mode, but always keeping an eye on your app.
