A digital platform to ensure data sovereignty

This is a trend that has been observed for several years, online sales markets are developing on a large scale. These platforms, with a strong presence in the B2B sales sector, enhance the vision of innovative SMEs and promote the emergence of new markets.

In the B2B sector, markets for industrial equipment sales are still limited or owned by large digital groups. Gafam and other BATX have recognized the critical importance of platforms in the digital transformation of our consumption patterns, but they do not guarantee complete transparency regarding the use of exchanged data. However, innovation through data has fostered the feeling that data has value and that its life cycle must be mastered from start to finish, especially in markets for the sale of industrial equipment. They are at the heart of Industry 4.0, which adds value to the resulting data.

Digitization as a primary trend

The digital transformation currently underway has become a major focus of development for society, business and technology. The services provided by mobile applications are not just a technological innovation; They have changed the way we work. If digitization can be considered a consequence of other developments, it is at the same time a catalyst for these developments. Here are some examples:

Mobility: The user expects to connect to digital services anytime and anywhere. Limitations on this aspect are often poorly accepted.

The sharing economy [1] : After allowing people to share goods and services over the past decade, the sharing economy – as a concept and a practice – is taking a step forward. Its maturity and credibility are enough to convince companies to also start sharing their physical and even immaterial resources among themselves.

Confidentiality: The outcome of digitization is currently leading to a paradox of confidentiality and data ownership. Our use of mobile applications or other networks may appear necessary to us, knowing that our personal data may be processed by third parties. This is acceptable at best at the consumer level, but becomes a problem in the customer-supplier relationship.

The most striking developments can be found in the transportation industry. It remains to be seen to what extent auto manufacturers will maintain their dominant role as manufacturers, or whether these companies will transform themselves into mere equipment suppliers to service companies. Many digital companies already offer vehicles whose model is based on Connected Services. We can mention Google via its subsidiary Waymo, Sony, Xiaomi, without forgetting Tesla. They provide electric vehicles, but also the applications accompanying them.
