What will the internet of the future look like?

What will the future of the Internet look like? The answer to this seemingly more complex question will undoubtedly come from Marketing Inspiration Conference 2022organized by Comundi and Strategies, which is associated with visual marketing Media Partner. I spoke with Noël Cambessedes, Founding President of Comptoirs, who will speak on June 30th at 4pm. The subject matter of this intervention promises to be fascinating: How to imagine products and develop brands that meet the challenges of tomorrow ? Among these issues, there is the famous Web3. This is Web3 which We have already discussed Which we have not finished referring to in these columns. Zoom in on the Christmas theme in this post and associated podcast.

Web3: What will the Internet of the future look like?

What will the Internet look like in the future? Web 3, Metavers, etc.

Web3: Back to the future

Web3 (or 3.0), back in the future a little bit about ten years ago, we were already talking about it.

The Semantic Web, sometimes referred to as Web 3.0, is an extension of the World Wide Web by standards [1] Created by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The goal of the Semantic Web is to make Internet data machine-readable

At the time it was supposed to be the Semantic Web, so the Web is more geared towards understanding its content by machines, well in principle, because we’ve never seen its color.

Web 3.0, Web 3, Back to the Future

The idea of the semantic web began in the 1960s, and the concept re-emerged half a century later, but this Web 3.0 never saw the light of day, as the founder of the web pointed out in 2013 in a research paper on Scientific American. Microformats eventually played this role.

The term disappeared…and then came back with some modification. From Web 3.0, it became Web 3 … Finally, this Web3 no longer had anything to do with the Semantic Web, it became something completely different.

A Gartner report published on February 24, 2022 explained what’s behind this 3.0 buzzword. This is what the American analyst has to say.

  • Web3 (also called Web 3.0) is a term popularized by Gavin Wood, co-founder of Ethereum, that describes the vision of the next iteration of the World Wide Web, envisioned as decentralized and powered by blockchain technologies. [on peut se poser la question de savoir s’il ne s’agit pas d’une prévision de l’avenir à la manière d’une Dinde qui prédirait Noël] ;
  • Web3 allows [trait] Peer-to-peer interactions without relying on centralized platforms or intermediaries [en quelque sorte, le rêve de Tim Berners Lee en 2019] ;
  • Complements Web3 Web 2.0 and Remedies [rait] Despite the negative consequences of centralizing Web 2.0, Web 2.0 retains advantages in terms of scale, customer service, and customer protection [selon Gartner].

Gartner goes on to predict the following:

  • Companies will continue to use Web 2.0 for most applications until 2030. During this period, they will only use Web3 for applications that take advantage of new blockchain-based business models, new social networks, and “games”.

They don’t get wet too much. Personally, I don’t understand why we didn’t call this “new” concept Web4. As long as we were there, we could have recorded the death of Web 3.0 and moved on to the next iteration.

The report concluded that it is indeed a new era of the Internet opening up, but that we will not see its arrival for another ten years. On the one hand, companies will be a little slow to embrace all this, and on the other hand, central companies will put up some resistance.

So much for definition and facts, let’s now turn to the summary of my discussion with Noel, as this exchange is recorded in full in the podcast attached to this post.

The future of the Internet you dream about: Web 3

The blockchain (Web3) revolution after Web2 and Web1

“It was the missing link. Several writers have worked on this with the famous four pillars of civilization, first technology, then new social norms, a new culture, and fourth a new political settlement,” Noel explains.

Web 3 is based on the blockchain: cryptocurrencies, NFTs and, by extension, the metaverse

“Today, the blockchain is being used by large corporations in a range of tools. Newcomers are becoming restricted to the blockchain. Some places Market Join the dance and all the banks have launched products and used the blockchain on a daily basis,” continues the Comptoirs founder.

Blockchain allows new economic models, but also the emergence of new tools

Société Générale issues a regulated product in a “security token” format on the public blockchain. vapourware version of the blockchain? Nouriel Roubini will have to review his copy and eat his pen.

Key point: Web3 is not intuitive

For Web3, it’s a little more complicated than in previous versions, as Noel Cambesides explains:

“The first time we went online, we knew we were going to have access to the information. The first time we got an email, we realized we could text each other, and the first time we set up a Facebook account, it was very intuitive.

This is much less for Web3 and that is one of the reasons why Gartner is giving a ten-year term,” emphasizes Noel.

Today Web3 is still for people who are not afraid of technological progress

Web 3 Strategic Challenges

All sectors have been affected by digital and all sectors will be affected by Web3

Now you have to start thinking: “But in general, what are the problems, how will they affect me and what do I want to do about it? Noel explains.

Challenge 1: New business models

Thanks to smart contracts, we are able to accelerate the crowdfunding movement.

There is a potential impact on all professions in B2C Where Consumer Communities Are

“I’ll take the example of cinema financing through NFTs,” continues Noël Cambessedes.

We can address the fans of the directors’ representatives, promising them, thanks to smart contracts, to participate in the future receipts of the film, so that they become investors.

It is a new business model, it is the audience that will finance the films

Issue Two: New Tools

Today, transferring money abroad, for example, is still very complicated. Blockchain offers a much faster, cheaper and faster solution.

The blockchain will simplify tasks and create new services.

Issue Three: New Finance

“Using the blockchain, it is possible to attribute the shares not to the company, but to the activity. As a result, all topics of transformation can be self-financed,” Noel explains.

Implementation of blockchain in banks enables security, archiving and improved processing times

Noel rightly adds: “We’re a little upset that we can’t find the old patterns of operation.” But in the long term, according to him, we are witnessing a real revolution. Let’s hope this is not an abusive use of the term as it has done so often in the past.

innovation and humility

We must always remain humble in the face of innovations

“Above all else, you have to remain curious and positive, and that is the most important thing,” advises Noel Cambesides, because “apart from whatever you invent and want to do, the important thing is to be happy. And I believe these new tools can help us in To be happier.”

This is undoubtedly the idea of Web3 (the new not the old), which is reinventing the decentralized web and liberating from the grip of digital giants, a more human, safer, and more inclusive web. We can only agree with this view, even if Gartner has reservations.

And in these technological leavens we have to go further, as Noel explains in his conclusion:

The point is to take the first step. And if you go in the wrong direction, you will still reach your destination, because you will have moved.

This is a good result. We must remain humble in the face ofCooperat. To invent, to innovate, something that will inevitably remain. We look forward to seeing you at Inspiration Marketing on June 30th at 4pm.
